The Editors at American Artist

To commemorate American Artist's 75th Anniversary, we are excited to announce an exhibition of artwork that celebrates the magazine's past, present, and future. Historical works and contemporary works will be featured, with a group of America's most influential artists and educational leaders representing the core. Additional works of art will be juried in through this 75th Anniversary Exhibition Competition. The exhibition and the announcement of the below awards will take place in April of 2013 at the Salmagundi Club, in New York City.

25 or More Works Chosen to Exhibit in American Artist's 75th Anniversary Exhibition!

  • Grand Prize Winner, chosen from the winning entries, will receive $1000 in cash.
  • All artists selected for the exhibition will also have their artwork featured in the 75th Anniversary art competitions gallery on Artist Daily and will be featured in a 2013 issue of American Artist magazine.

JURY OF SELECTION AND AWARDS

JACOB COLLINS
Professional painter and instructor; founder/director of the Water Street Atelier, The Grand Central Academy of Art, and the Hudson River Fellowship. Collins is a leading figure in the contemporary revival of classical realism, and his work has been widely exhibited in North America and Europe and is included in several American museums. Collins' work and educational efforts have been covered in The New York Times and numerous other publications.

DANIEL E. GREENE
Professional painter, portraitist, and instructor. Greene, a former instructor of painting at the National Academy of Design and the Art Students League of New York, is a highly regarded portraitist and has painted leaders of government, banking, education, the arts, and industry. He has been the recipient of numerous awards from such institutions as the American Society of Portrait Artists, the Oil Painters of America, and the Portrait Society of America.

ODD NERDRUM
Professional painter and instructor. Nerdrum's influence as a traditionally based artist of high skill, forward-thinking philosophy, and contemporary subject matter is felt internationally. He is the leader of the "Kitsch" movement and is the subject of The Nerdrum Institute, in Oslo, Norway, a museum-style institution dedicated to the exhibition and preservation of Nerdrum's oeuvre.

BURTON SILVERMAN
Professional painter and instructor. Silverman is a thinking artist, one who continually challenges the mindsets and practices of contemporary realists. He has had 31 solo exhibitions throughout the United States, has appeared in numerous national and international exhibitions, and has his work in more than two dozen public collections in the United States. Silverman has been a popular instructor at The Arts Students League of New York and other institutions.
